VPN (Virtual Private Network) connectivity is available for IBM Maximo EAM SaaS Flex and TRIRIGA SaaS environments.
When is a VPN needed?
A VPN in IBM Cloud is typically used for one of more of the following purposes:
To establish direct, read-only access to Maximo or TRIRIGA SaaS databases (outside of the application user interface)
This is typically used for BIRT Report Development or running SQL queries against the database from customer workstationsTo support integrations to/from Maximo or TRIRIGA SaaS that cannot be run over HTTPS or SFTP
This is typically used for direct jdbc based database connections that leverage the Maximo Integration Framework (MIF) or TRIRIGA's DataConnect or Business Objects Integration optionsTo support LDAP authentication between a customer's LDAP repository and the Maximo Application
To support external mail server integration
Other types of connectivity that cannot be run over HTTPS or SFTP
Types of VPN connections
There are two (2) VPN connection types available:
OpenVPN
This is a client workstation based VPN account that is available to IBM Maximo or TRIRIGA SaaS customers. It is required to establish RDC (Remote Desktop) access to Enhanced Access DEV environments, and can also be used to establish direct, read-only access to IBM Cloud databases. OpenVPN accounts are issued on a per-user basis. OpenVPN accounts are included as part of the IBM SaaS subscription.Site-to-Site IPsec VPN
This is a network wide, IBM firewall to Customer firewall VPN tunnel. It can be setup and configured for any Maximo or TRIRIGA SaaS customer. Setup and configuration of one (1) site-to-site VPN is included as part of the IBM Cloud SaaS subscription. Because this establishes a persistent, secure network tunnel between two organizations, the setup and configuration process can be more complex and time consuming.
